Time: Set up - Beginning    6:00 a.m
  Race Start: 8:30 a.m.
  Estimated Finish  12:00 noon
Route: The Lake Waconia Triathlon is a three-stage event consisting of swimming ˝ mile, biking 24 miles, and running 4 miles.
   

SWIMMING

The Lake Waconia Triathlon is a three-stage event consisting of swimming ˝ mile, biking 24 miles, and running 4 miles.

SWIM: (1/2 Mile): - SWIM ROUTE - The race starts on the west side of the Lake Waconia swimming beach.  Swim along a course following the markers in a U shaped course starting away from shore, turning east for the approximate width of the swimming beach and return to the east side of the swimming beach.

SWIM START -
Elites athletes and Teams will start in a wave format, all other athletes will start in a “Time-Trial” format, every 3 seconds

WET SUITS: USAT wet suit rules apply

No swim fins or trolling motors allowed!!!

Exchange: - Swimmers will exit the water and run (approximately 200 yards into the bike corral / exchange area.

BIKING

BIKING (24 Miles): Bikers will exit the park and proceed west on Old Beach Road traveling to Main Street. Turning right on Main and proceeding up to the top of “cemetery hill” and then through the City of Waconia via Main Street to Walnut/Waconia Parkway N. Bikers will turn right onto Waconia Parkway N. Bikers will follow Waconia Parkway N to it’s intersection with County Road 30/County Road 10, turning right (north) and then turning left (northwest) onto County Road 30. They will travel on County Road 30 to its’ intersection with Highway 25 near the City of Mayer. Bikers will turn right (north) on Highway 25 traveling a short distance and then turn left (west) once again onto County Road 30 headed to New Germany. Just before New Germany they will turn left (south) onto County Road 32. They will continue on County Road 32, turning left (east) where the road intersects with Vega Avenue. They will cross the Crow River and continue on County Road 32 as it winds through the countryside. They will cross over State Highway 25 and follow County Road 32 to it intersection with Waconia Parkway S (County Road 32/10) Bikers will turn right onto Waconia Parkway S and follow it to the intersection with Oak Avenue, where they will turn left. They will follow Oak to the intersection with Kinder Drive. Turning left onto Kinder Drive they will follow Kinder to Burandt Bvld, where they will turn right. Bikers will follow Burandt Blvd past the fairgrounds and turn left onto Walnut, which they will follow to the intersection with Main Street. They will turn right on Main Street, following it through downtown Waconia. Just before reaching Legacy Village, they will turn left onto Old Beach Road and return to Lake Waconia Regional Park. They will dismount and run into the bike corral.

PLACEMENT OF BIKE NUMBER:
Our ability to read your race number is of vital importance to get accurate results.  Please be sure to place the race number on your bike frame as shown.



You may also be asked to call out your number as you pass the transition spots.  Thanks for your assistance in advance.  We appreciate your participation in this race.


HELMET:
Please note, all participants are required to wear an ANSI/SNELL approved cycling helmet.


Exchange: - Participants will enter with their bikes into the bike corral and return to the same spot to exchange for the run.

All exchanges occur at the Lake Waconia Regional Park near Lakeside Ballroom. A Bike Corral will be erected. This area is secured.

Only race participants with numbers will be allowed in the bike corral. For security reasons No bike can be brought in or out without the race number on the person and bike matching. The bike corral is a first come - first served space arrangement. Bike racks are set up to be used on both sides; please do not take more than a 3 to 4 foot wide space on one side of the rack. 


Note for TEAMS: Team exchange is in the bike corral, in a specially marked area of coral. All team exchanges are done in the bike corral. Each team 
will have a space for the exchange. Exchanges are at a hand touch system.

RUNNING


RUNNING (4 Miles): - Runners will proceed west on Old Beach road traveling to Main street. Turning right on main and proceeding up to the top of “cemetery hill” and then through the City of Waconia via Main Street to Walnut. Runners will turn left (south) on Walnut and go to Third Street. At Third Street they will turn right (west) and proceed for approximately 6 blocks to the turn-around spot. They will return to the beach along the same route. The finish line is in the park on the west side of the bike corral. A structure will be erected to indicate the finish line.

SAFETY ISSUES


We are dedicated to provide a safe race for spectators, volunteers and spectators. We have the following plans to assure this:

Off-duty deputies have been hired to assist with crowd and traffic control.

The Lake Waconia Association and the Waconia Fire Department will be assisting during the swimming portion and will provide adequate boats, jet skis and safety for swimmers.  Along the 1/2 mile swim course there will be certified life guards. We will also be contacting the Sheriff Water Patrol and Waconia Fire Department Water Rescue teams.

Each swimmer is required to wear the provided swim cap for easier identification in the water.

Bikers are required to wear a bike helmet during the entire biking portion of the race.

Volunteers will be at each intersection to assist with the flow of traffic and assist the participants.

Two-way radios and cellular phones will be used to provide communication along the race route.

Spotters will be roaming the race course for potential problems during the race.

Medical Services will be provided by Ridgeview Medical Center. An ambulance will be present on a stand-by basis.

Extra porta-potties will be brought in for the race day.

The Lakeside Ballroom has agreed to allow us to use their parking facilities on race day to handle any overload of the parking lot.
